I'm specifically wondering about copywrite and pirating laws... If I copy a song from a CD I own for my own purposes (not giving away, selling, etc, etc) and that CD gets lost or stolen, what do the copywrite laws say? Do I have to buy another copy of that album in order to legally keep using that song, or do the laws allow that as an exception to having a copy of the original for any duplication you make for your own purposes?

Yeah, I know most people just pirate stuff and copy friend's CDs willy-nilly, but I believe that pirating is still stealing.

  1. Obviously there's no morality issue with keeping songs you ripped from CDs you used to own, but if the RIAA starts kicking in doors there's no way to prove that you ripped them from your own CDs.

  2. It is legal.  Please don't worry.

  3. as long as your not sharing the file you can do with whatever you want with it. the minute you paid for the cd the file became yours. you cant share it or sell it
