what i mean is, around here no one cares about their dogs and they let em roam free. they are starting to pack up with the coyotes and breed and they are no longer friendly...at all. they are becoming a lot more daring and not scard of people. theres about 15 homes on our street and at least 10 of them have kids under the age of 5. easy food for a wild dog/coyote...so i want to know if its legal to kill them? seeing as they are still dogs even though they have gone wild.

them suckers are big to, i have a 50 pound mutt and their tracks are bigger then his.

  1. this kind of animal is called a coydog or somthing like that....

it depends on the state that you live in.. btw these animals can become very dangerous

  2. In Georgia, you can't be prosecuted for defending your property if you believe your life is in danger.

I found that out because I had one attacking my dogs, I went out to break them up and he attacked me. Big mistake on his part.

I rescue dogs and would never kill one without need.

  3. If the dogs are on your property, yes

if the dogs are causing harm to your livestock, or you have reason to believe they are, yes

Generally, if they are NOT on your property, not approaching or having just left your property, then no, you cannot...unless you talk to the landowner of that property and get him to express his concern then say how you have a good rifle and are ready to take care of any that set foot on your property, would he like you to do the same for his property?

  4. Start off with contacting your county's Animal Control office and find out your options before you begin your defense against these feral dogs. That way, you'll have a paper trail going and will avoid being charged with animal cruelty if a dog's owner decides NOW s/he cares about poor Fido even though the mutt has been running wild for a month. If in packs, however, they may get even bolder and want to attack at once; in that case don't hold back on the ammo and cross 'em over!

  5. The wild dog problem is pretty extensive in rural areas. In Oklahoma, any land owner can shoot on sight without worry of legal action if the dog seems to be either just roaming on its own or is threatening livestock. Same thing in Arkansas.

  6. Who cares --- Just kill them...... Put on some camo gear, maybe a Gillie suit and hunt them.... There are laws against that in my state but I dont give a rats puhnuh puhnuh what the law is....  Me and my crew called a pack in and blasted them with our Mossberg 500 12 gauge shotguns loaded with 3 inch and 2 3/4 inch 9 pellet buckshot..... We had 2 guys waiting down the ravine where a couple of them escaped to and finished them off with a couple of Ruger Mini 30's...... Seven dogs in 2 minutes......

And then a couple of days later we see the missing photos at the local diner for those missing mutts.....  If there on your property and even look at you funny just blast them....

  7. anyting hunting your live stock here in New Mexico you can shoot.

  8. Depends on your state and local laws. In our state if strays are menacing livestock farmers have the authority to shoot on site.  In the burbs I'd suggest calling animal control and let them deal with..

My grandpa shot even his own dogs if they started chasing calves.

People don't realize that precious bowser turns into a wolf in a couple of weeks in the wild fending for itself.. It's unlikely that children would wind up as prey unless other meal species aren't available.

The dogs that are hybrid coyote need to be exterminated.. As you say they aren't scared of humans and can have coyote tenancity in the size of a german shepard or Labrador.

  9. NO!

  10. As per the Sheriff after the last one I shot

    "d**n good shot"

In Texas if they are or have harassed, injured, or killed stock then we can shoot. The only thing our Sheriff asks is that we tell them of the kill so they can plot the trends on the map.

  11. You should be OK (at least in the state of Texas) as long as you are outside any jurisdiction (i.e. city or county) that bans the discharge of firearms.  Feral dogs can be a real problem along with wild cats and pigs....

I live outside city limits but the county prohibits firing a gun....however if my kids or the neighbor's kids or pets were threatened by any sort of varmint, I would not hesitate a second to shoot, shovel and shut up.

  12. In northeastern NC about once a year many of the farmers in the little town I'm moving to get together and hunt wild dogs. And they hunt them for the reasons you want to, they are indeed destructive and dangerous, to people, pets, livestock and property. With them pairing up with coyotes, and breeding, they become even more pervasive. Check your local DNR about coyote and coy dog hunting.
