Is it legal to land a helicopter in your backyard?

If I were to get a license to fly a helicopter, can I land it in my backyard / roof (private property) legally? I hear choppers aren't regulated by the FAA or whatever that organization is... That would be great to be able to land on any private property and fly to work...

  1. Depends where you live!...where i live is to close to a city airport landing and departure route...for safety!...but I do have a flat roof?...I think you would have to get an assessment done and also aggree on noise issues?...

  2. First is it safe to land and take off. If the answer is yes then the FAA doesn't care. However local andc state laws may not allow you. In lovely state of NJ you have to do all kinds of paperwork for a one time landing and take off. Check with your locals first. And yes helicopters are the b*****d child of aviation, there are many rules that do not apply to us.

  3. If you have the requisite amount of space, I don't see why not.  That said however, it would need to be A LOT of space to keep all those petty public safety issues from getting in the way.
