Is it legal to overcharge for stamps?

I have been charged £1.60 in a shop (ie NOT a Post Office) for 4 "normal sized mail" 1st class stamps. So far as I know, that's too much. Is it not illegal to overcharge for stamps?

  1. I was always led to believe they are not allowed to be sold for more than their face value.

  2. You can't buy regular stamps in books of four so probably they were the large ones. To be fair if you paid that much for them obviously they can overcharge. Why didn't you ask where you bought them?

The shop has conned you, you have a choice now, of going to trading standards and reporting them or never buying stamps etc from them again. I think I'd probably just not buy from there again..

  3. Hi! It is always safe to purchase stamps and other legal attestations

from Govt. offices like post offices. It is really illegal & embarassing

to see that you have been overcharged. Think well before purchase.
