Is it legal to own a pig as a pet?

i live in new york and im not talking about those huge potbelly pigs. im talking about the little pink ones that u can walk on a leash like this one

is it legal to own one in surburban new york?

That little pig you linked to is actually a piglet of the Large White breed, at approximately 1 month of age. It will grow to be about 300kg. Most suburban councils will not let you keep them.

They become big, strong animals and put out a lot of p**p. If you had a few acres of land to keep one on maybe you would manage, but not in suburbia.

EDIT: A 'mini pig' is more often than not just runts of litters. So it may only get to 200kg. They are still big animals and aren't going to stay below knee height.

Ummm.... The potbelly bigs are WAY smaller than those little pink ones.. The little pink ones grow into HUGE pink ones... I have a potbelly pig and she's a little smaller than a golden lab. I have no idea if you can own one in new york

Check with your local animal control.

Just so you know.. that cute little pink pig will someday grow up to be a huge swine.  What you are looking at is a piglet, not an adult animal.

I wouldnt advise owning a pig in suburbian new york, they're better off with plenty of space to root around in the soil, and they'd destroy any garden you have if you have one. A pig probably wouldn't be as happy as an inside pet, and in lots of places you need a license to walk them in public, which involves stupid things like you have to declare the route you'll take etc.

I think so. I think it's like the same as owning a horse. Try calling a vet or something.

Of course it is!

My best friend owns a pot belly pig, and they take it for walks on the streets. :) its fine.
