Is it legal to park your scooter on the sidewalk?

I am in the process of buying a scooter (put the down payment on it yesterday). This morning I saw a scooter parked on the sidewalk outside my work in downtown Boston. Is this legal? I didn't see a ticket on it. I would like to know this ahead of time so I don't take up a car's parking spot if I don't have to. Could I park it next to a bike rack?

It varies from town to town but it usually is illegal, although not very enforced.  You should talk to the police to make sure but generally if it is meant to be operated in mainstream traffic then it is meant to be parked in mainstream parking.
