Is it legal to put your number plate in the front window? (UK)

Basically I want a nice new front bumper for my Ford Focus, and im wondering can I get away with putting my front plate on top of the dash on the passenger side?

Will i be able to claim it just fell off and its there temporarily haha

Whats your opinions?

  1. You are silly.  Then fasten it to the car directly, if you don't want to touch the bumper.   Some cars are made that way from the factory.  But you have that Long plate don't you?    You are just making life hard on yourself..   After a few bang ups, the license plate will be the newest looking thing there.  Window is not good enough as from the side, the suns glare can eliminate the plate/so can a dirty window.    Best to see your motor  carriers regulation book just to be safe and not get pinched.


  2. I think it's legal to have the number plate above the bumper (eg on the front grill) but I don't think it's legal to have the number plate on the dashboard for too long.

  3. Yeah it is illegal.

    I had the same problem as you actually.

    I got pulled over constantly and said it fell off in the road etc and said it was temp, got away with it for a while.

    Then I unluckily bumped in to the same copper twice.... oops!
