  1. Depends on where you are and where they are. In Massachusetts, for example, it is completely illegal to record someone's voice without their knowledge, and permission, even if it's part of an obvious video-surveillance system, in public, unless it's part of a "newsworthy event" that would fall under "First Amendment" protection.

In other places, it is only required that "one party" to a conversation (e.g., phone) be aware of and consent to recording. Obviously, with a proper warrant, the authorities can obtain permission to record anything.

  2. As long as they are on public property its fine. Don't try to record government institutions though. Banks, court houses, police stations, airports... all should be avoided.

  3. On some occasions, yes.

Although, it's a law that you may not videotape anyone without their consent. (Unless of course it's for defense or evidence or obvious reasons.) You just may not publish it for people's entertainment without their consent.

  4. Wouldn't be much point is security cameras if it was illegal, how that recording is used is a different matter.

  5. not sure but if so i'm in TROUBLE

  6. It depends. If somebody is recording voices without consent it is illegal. If somebody is filming you in a public place without voice recording it is illegal. If somebody is recording telephone calls without your consent they need permission and a warrant from the secretary of state which is very rarely granted except to the likes of the police etc etc

  7. it depends on what the recording is being used for...I would say yes though...cops record criminal activity all the time while undercover...I'm pretty sure they don't let the criminals know before hand

  8. one of the people in the conversation has to be aware they are being recorded for it to be legal.

  9. Yes, as long as you are not recording them on their own property or private property.
