Is it legal to ride a bicycle at night in LA?

It may be common sense but i just came from foreign country,

and i am wondering if it is legal to ride a bicycle at night.

Is it required to have a light on the bicycle?

Also, can i ride a bicycle in sideways? Is it legal??

A light is required for riding at night, but not for riding during the day.

A helmet is needed at all times.

Riding at night with a helmet and a light is legal.

Officially, bike riding is supposed to occur in the street, not on the sidewalk, but this is not enforced everywhere.  If you are going fast enough to endanger pedestrians, use the street.  If you are riding with children who can only go 3 miles (4.8 km) per hour and are too small for cars to see, use the sidewalk.

In California, one needs lights in front and back, plus proper reflectors for visibility from the side.

Do you mean sidewalks?   I think you are limited to bike lanes only.  That is what they are there for.  Make sure you ride WITH traffic and not against it.  That is an instant ticket right there if a cop sees you.

Interesting note:You can STILL get a ticket if you are intoxicated and have been riding your bike.

If your under 16, and in some cases under 18 it would be violating a curfiew law, so it would not be legal in that case.

Ok, if you are over 18, then it is legal to ride a bike at night.

You can double check with the department of Motor Vehicles , there is one in your area, go to this website to find the telephone number of the DMV office in your area.

but  i think yu do need to have a light thingy or like those jackets that shine those stripes i dunno what their called i forgot gah!

it should rquire having the light, thats the only way and to wear a helmet also!!

You can ride your bicycle even inside shopping malls, in the aisles of buses and in government buildings, except courthouses.

They allow rollerblades and bicycles only for that though.
