Is it legal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk in Sacramento, CA?

I know it's illegal for the state of CA , but some cities in CA allow it.

  1. It is NOT illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk by California statute, but the state leaves this up to the cities.

    When someone says it is illegal, they should quote the statute number and wording.

    It is not illegal in Sacramento. I believe it is illegal in San Francisco.

    Even where it is legal to ride on sidewalks, bikes must be ridden safely and courteously and must yield to pedestrians.

    And in cities where legal, Heavy retail and heavy pedestrian traffic areas are still illegal.

The Sacramento city code states:  "Except as authorized under subsection B of this section, no person shall ride a bicycle on a sidewalk except within a residence district or where a sidewalk is designated as part of an established bicycle route. Pedestrians shall have the right-of-way on sidewalks."

  4. no i dont really see a lot of people doing it. rite next to the side walk is where people bike
