  1. Rich Z,

    that sounds pretty ignorant of you to suggest that any cyclist on a major road will instantly be killed by a motorist.  It's that kind of "car-head" thinking that perpetuates the mentality that bikes do not belong on the roadway.

    However, I do think he is right in the respect that most major interstate highways do not allow cyclists.  I personally would steer away from these types of roads due to the heavy volume of traffic and the poor maintenance of the shoulders on which one would ride.  Car accidents are frequent on highways and generally the broken glass and debris is swept onto the shoulder where you would be riding.


  2. I have never seen ANY interstate that permits bicycles.

    I think they are concerned that when you get hit by a large vehicle they are going to have to stop traffic to scrape you off the pavement. (And I did say "when" not "if.")
