Is it legal to tow a cart that is smaller than your car behind your car or truck ?

I have a hot dog cart and want to tow it behind my truck, it is smaller than my truck, and u can still see my truck lights. do i have to get lights and license to tow the cart ??

  1. usually if it has wheels it needs tags. i dont know what kind of cart you want to pull, but the dinky carts i have seen will fall apart if yu try to drag them more than 10mph.


  2. well the trailer size dont matter TO much, but most states require Tags and lights on that trailer unless its a tiny rubbish trailer.

  3. You will need it tagged and licensed and insured.

I don't know where you live, but in Florida, all trailers (and carts) must have a license tag.  If being towed during daylight hours, lights are not necessary, but certainly useful.  Even though one can still see your truck lights, with some idiots on the road today, they may not look at your truck for turning/stop lights.  Especially  if they are on a cel phone.  In Florida, even lawn-maintenace trailers (open sides and bed) use trailer lights for safety.  Not knowing the size of your hot dog cart, make sure the wheels and tires are rated for highway use.
