  1. yes fully legal.....

  2. It depends what exactly you mean by "use."

For a tourist or other visitor who is here temporarily with a vehicle which is properly registered in another country, running on that country's plates, and so on, then it is legal.  This applies to many other aspects of vehicle construction and equipment, the basic rule being that if it's legal in its home country, then it's legal here too.

However, as soon as the vehicle is registered in the U.K. and running on U.K. plates, then it becomes subject to the U.K. Construction & Use Regulations.  One of these demands that the vehicle be fitted with a working speedometer which indicates speed in MILES per hour, since that is still the official measurement of speed here (and that INCLUDES Wales!).

You can comply with the rules by attaching decals or other stickers to the existing speedometer which show MPH markings, but they must be visible at night (by way of the dash illumination etc.) as well as in daylight.

  3. Yes, look at the number of lorries from the rest of the EU on British roads.

  4. only if its over 10 years old if not it would need to be s.v.a tested and the speedo changed first off all before it would be road legal. thats if you meant england because in wales they use kilometers instead in which case yes it would be legal.

  5. I believe that in the UK you should have mph in order to pass your MOT. so i would guess that it is illegal

  6. I think you have to have the 30 clearly marked, and possibly a few other key speeds

  7. Yes, it's legal to use, but to pass an MOT, you need to have MPH marked, even if it's just with 3 or 4 stick on numbers (30,50,70 etc.,)

Yep, I live in Wales too - kilometres, bolox!

  8. not ILLEGAL no.... but its not an excuse if cought speeding... unfortuanately...

    its ADVISABLE to have the 30 - 40 - 60 - 70 marked on even by hand

  9. my dad has a really old porsche which is left hand drive & he takes it into France and brings it home, but he has where the km speedometer is he has put mph stickers have been placed infront off it. & he is allowed to use it.

  10. Although UK is still measured in Imperial Miles and not Kilometers, there is no reason why you should not drive a car in UK with a speedo in kilometers and not mhp.

Try the link below and you'll be able to convert from Kph to Mph quite easily.  If you work out how many Kph = 30-Mph and stick to that in built up areas where you see the sign 30, you'll have no problem.

Stick a note on your dash-board somewhere above your speedometer giving the equivalent speed etc. . . .if stopped, remember to speak in a foreign accent - German is best because it will be assumed you know what you are doing.  If you use a French accent, the cops will assume you have had a double brandy for breakfast and ask you to blow in their breath tester.

  11. no i think you need it to be mph to pass its mot - dont quote me on that though!! But really, unless you are amazingly good at converting then i wouldnt advise it cos where it says 40 it means 40 :)

Actually in saying that loads of trucks n lorries come over 4 transport are they km - dunno

Oh n 4 that guy above me - i live in wales n iv never come across a km car just mph ones :)
