I've heard, as long as you carry a valid drivers licence & passport on you, you don't need the expense of getting an International Drivers Licence/Permit ?

Is this true ?

I've heard this is linked to International Law, , , , , correct ?

It's been difficult to find any information on this subject.

  1. Some countries require it, some don't.  What the IDP does is translate your drivers license into other languages.  In some countries if you get pulled over, they will make you surrender some form of ID.  In this case, hand over the permit to them and hold onto your license and passport.  A $15 permit is a lot easier to replace than a passport or license!
