  1. No.  But you have to be a resident for 180 days of the year to be covered by health insurance.


  2. No it is not. Also, Canadian Permanent Residents are required to be in Canada 2 years out of every 5.

    Please keep in mind though, that as a citizen you must be in Canada 180 days out of every year, in order not to lose your health care. If you are out of the province longer it will cause a lapse in health care and you will have to re-apply and then have a waiting period of up to 3 months before you can use the health care system again, without having to pay.
