Is it mandatory one be summoned for jury duty?

Having received several how are they now pulling names for such, license, work, background some sort of registration?

anytime you goto get your drivers license, and sign up to vote then you are also added to a list and will be called sometime to do jury duty as long as you are of age you can be subject to be called to do your duty. I don't know if it is the same everywhere. I had to call a certain number,on a certain day, at a certain time, just to see if the jury selection was going on and where to report to be selected or not. you go to say the court house, and you go through the weapon probe arches, ( no knives,guns or other weapons, please ) then you go to another room and register yourself and wait to be seated there may be a line. pack a lunch and bring some reading material, it maybe a long day. the good things are you get off work legally, you get paid according to the time you spent there. and you won't be called for a possible two more years. the other stuff you have to ask for the smoking area if you smoke and hopefully get the same seat as you had before you left the room. the sodas cost from the machines and so do the eats and they usually don't taste that good.
