I have a nephew who wants to get into the Army Reserves, but he never got a GED of HS diploma. I told him he needs one, he insists he doesn't.

Which is it?

  1. i think they are still giving waviers. but it might limit his job choices

  2. He's not getting into anything if he doesn't have either.

  3. He does. Absolutely.

  4. If he has completed any college, then there is a chance he'd be eligible, but he would have to score a 50 or better on the ASVAB test.  He would also need an official high school transcript showing his enrollment and withdrawal dates.  He would require a waiver, and probably have to talk to the CO.

  5. Nobody takes a non-grad any more.  He'll be lucky to get in with a GED.  He better have some pretty good ASVAB scores and not required any moral waivers

  6. YES!  Of course you do!  They won't let just anyone in!  Besides if this nephew wants to do anything with his career, he needs a GED.  Regardless of joining or not.

  7. I don't know about now, but it sure would make it easier on him to get in.  He still needs to pass the aptitude tests to determine were they might be able to use him.

  8. Yes he needs one or the other. The recruiters though sometimes will help him get his GED if he is really interested in joining. Some might even pay for it.

    tell him good luck.

  9. Yes he does need one or the other. If you go to any of the Military websites or any recruiting station they will tell you this.

  10. This requirement has been going back and forth. He WILL have to have one or the other. I am not sure if it will have to be a HS Cert or not but he will have to have one or the other.
