Is it me or is Jelena Jankovic, the most futile #1 ranked women's player ever ????

The previously mentioned #1 ranked women have won a total of 120 slams and had 90 runner-up performances. Jelena has not only failed to win a Slam, she has never even been a slam finalist. I know how the ranking systems work and I know that Jankovic has played consistently over the last few years. I know that she has earned her position,but she doesn't measure up to the women who came before her. Not even remotely in my book.

Completely correct. She hasn't even made it to the finals, and she's #1!!! How can it be? She doesn't even do that well. I mean even at Wimbledon when the gap was open for her to make it to the finals she blew it, even when Sharapova and Ivanovic were out.

oh absolutely right jankovic is purely a tournament calibre player.. she is certainly the most undeserved womens number one and has yet to see even a grand slam final.. some fans cited that  maybe she would make it to a final not having to play justine henin... well that did not bring her any fortune to her grand slam conquest..

Womens tennis has gone downhill big time.... alot of overranked players.. and players like kim clijsters and justine henin and mauresmo were much better..

Clisjters could have certainly won more slams if she was not stuck in that dominat area of the willam sisters and then she would fall to justine henin who knew how to just step it up a little more..

Even mauresmo was was a much better number one player. she was once ranked number one without a grand slam win.. but everyone knew mauresmo was a big potential number one player.. the all court style and serve and volley..

Someone looks like they understand tennis. I agree w/ u. She is the most unimpressive #1 to be on August 18. Hopefully one day though she'll win a slam and be a finalist in a slam.

You are absolutely right. Even if you ignore the success she is the least talented no1 in many years!(Sorry I love Jelena but it is true!) She is certainly the least qualified in years.

Kim Clijsters too achieved the no.1 before winning a Grand Slam but she was an unbelievable player who had the misfortune of playing when the Williams sisters were at their best aswell as being overshadowed on court by Justine Henin.

Jelena Jankovic is number on merit-She deserves to be no.1 because she is the best of a mediorce bunch over the whole year. I agree that that doesn't make her a worthy #1 but it is not her fault everyone else is either not playing enough or not good enough to be ahead of her!!

Womens tennis is going through a mediocre faze that is for sure-But all we can hope for is it is just a faze of transition.

4 years ago women's tennis was spoiled for champions!! Serena, Venus, Henin, Clijsters, Mauresmo, Davenport, Capriati-This was the top 7 at 04 Wimbledon!!!!! It was this year too that the Eastern Europeans really arrived on the scene-Myskina won the French in 03 and Sharapova won Wimbledon in 04. Women's tennis was so exciting back then-and that was only 4 years ago!! Sharapova never pushed on, The Belgans retired prematurely. It is such a shame-I am not even interested in it anymore!

Bt 1 thing is 4 sure tht this is NOT LONGLASTING bcoz thr r more deserving players who will take her position very soon...
