In case you don't know what I'm talking about, whenever I turn to the History Channel, the only thing I ever saw was Conspiracy theories about the NWO and Illuminati, UFOs trying to invade Earth, paranoid doomsday prophesies vaguely interpreted by Nostradamus and Mayans, CRAPtozoology, and David Icke claiming that Bush and the British royal along are evil reptilian aliens from space. I thought History Channel is suppose to be about, gee I don't know.....HISTORY!!!!!! On Tuesday they have anew series premiere called Evolve, which talks about the history of life and how it it evolves so many features. This sounds like quite an interesting, at least better than most of their other garbage, but if you follow the link right here and read the description carefully, you'll see something wrong.

In case you didn't catch that, either there was a little mistake when they wrote the episode description, or the History Channel truly believes that “Ninety five percent of living species are equipped with eyes”, this includes organisms outside the Animal Kingdom. I really hope it is the former, otherwise history Channel really is now completely full of c**p.

What are your opinions?

  1. The History Channel is more entertainment than history. I too have noted many mistakes. They had a documentary about Operation Dragoon - the Allied invasion into southern France and in the footage, and not connected with the dialogue was footage of marines storming ashore on a tropical island - footage that was supposed to be the invasion of France!

  2. Oscar I was an Ice Road trucker !!!

But yes they have gone downhill pretty Bad

  3. The History Channel is for people who don't read books.

    It's infotainment at best.

It's like McDonald's: fast, cheap and not very good for you.

  4. Television is about making money.  The History Channel went the way of the Discovery Channel and became more about entertainment than History.  When they play the c**p I turn the channel.  If enough people do that they will go back to real History or they will be out of business.  The problem is that the c**p gets better ratings then the History.

  5. ~What, you missed Ice Road Truckers and the exploits of the Northwest loggers?

Frankly, I don't rely on TV for education.  I'm old school and prefer to read (original sources whenever possible) and to analyze what I read and form my own conclusions.

It seems the the History channel agrees and has decided that its role is entertainment, not enlightenment.  When they did 'historical' stuff, especially about the American War for Southern Independence (which they still erroneously call a civil war), WWII and the American Colonial War for Independence (which they still erroneously call a revolution), I got so fed up with the obvious distortions and misrepresentations and outright lies that I decided "Leave it to Beaver" and the Andy Griffith Show were far more accurate depictions of life in America in those eras (even if neither Opie or Beaver ever heard of Joe McCarthy).

Hey, they can't do "Wings" reruns forever.  If you want to sell commercials, you've got to do new shows.  Quality and accuracy are never an issue when entertainment and ratings are involved.  Gee, maybe THAT'S why I read so much!?

  6. What do you not believe? that 95% of living species have eyes? I suppose you have to define an eye really. Flowers sense light, is that an eye? trees grow up towards a light source, is that an eye? or are you thinking looking, blinking, image resolving eyes?

I think it could have been just worded better.

I'll give it a go, it'll make a change from the Second World War anyway.
