or does there seem to be a lot of earthquakes happening recently? i mean, there was that devastating earthquake in China, but there have been others in the UK, Japan, Iceland... and these are only the one's we've heard about. Japan is a hot spot but the UK and Iceland? China isn't particularly accustomed to earthquakes either. What does this mean? are we on the verge of something (environmentally) big? or is it simply down to increased media coverage?

  1. We are having major catastrophes because of the alignment of the planets due by 2012. If you think this is really happening frequently, wait until we hit 2009 ++

  2. As the worlds population grows the impact of large earthquakes will become greater and greater. People live in earthquake proned ares oftemn become complacent. The same with storms and Tsunamis. So the loss of live will increase. There are other theories as well. My personal theory is that as the earth's ice packs melt the increased water in the oceans puts more pressure on the techtonic plates causing more movement(quakes) also it forces water into subduction zones providing additional lubrication for movement. I believe that the movement of water around the plannet has more of an impact than most scientists. But then again, I have been out of the field for a while.

  3. Iceland has alot of earthquakes, but usually just little ones but the uk is ... kinda weird...

    anyway I agree with maxhedr00m

  4. Increased Media coverage. Earthquakes happen all the time but not as big as the ones like China. There's been loads of media of the China earthquake...70,000 and more are confirmed dead, the majority of which are children. Its absolutely devastating! I'm Chinese myself and I'm just a bit relieved my friend was not hurt there... Still can't believe that b**** Sharon Stone said that nasty comment..

  5. Increased media coverage. I mean in ye olden days there were lots of earthquakes rumoured to have been huge on the richter scale but poor communication meant that these events were forgotten unfortunately.

  6. yep its just you

There are a lot of earthquakes all the time. Earthquakes only get media coverage when there is significant property damage and  loss of life.
