Is it mean to keep just one fish?

I did have two, but sadly one died. Now she's on her own (lionhead) and i feel ever so sorry for her. I have heard that fish have a very short memory-span but still, i cant help it, she looks so lonely in the tank.

Im worried if i bring in another 'new' one they might not get on (the other one lived for 2.5 years)....What do you think?

  1. it depends on the kind of fish you have. some do much better in schools and some do better to be the only fish in the tank

  2. We had a tetra that lived to be 7½ years old.  The last 5 years were alone.  She seemed as happy as a fish could be.

Of course, she had her art glass to keep her company...

  3. Well, goldfish actually have a memory of 3 months. And yes they enjoy company. It would be best to get him another friend.=)

  4. I think your lionhead would be fine alone. Fish generally don't mind being alone unless they are social, schooling,or shoaling fishes. You could add another one, there usually isn't a problem with goldfish unless the tank is small. These guys get big, so unless you have a big tank I wouldn't recommend it. Use your best judgment, but in my opinion another one is neither necessary or unnecessary.
