Question:

Is it mold?

At first it was only my bathroom that smelled a little moldy. I assume that's from water getting out of the shower and getting under the tiles?

Now it's my bed room. My air conditioner had been leaking inside (for about 2 weeks) and it got my carpet all wet. I live in Florida so its always humid and since its summer time there have been lots of bugs. Centipedes have been coming in through my bedroom windows for the wetness from my air conditioner. It's now fixed. But there's still a nasty moldy stench. How do I get rid of the smell?

Do different types of mold smell differently and could this one be causing me health issues?

  1. Air it out, hire some professionals to get rid of the mold for sure, some are bad for your health and also just smell plain old Nasty.

  2. You should not just cover up the smelll you need to find where it is coming from and get it cleaned up. If you have mold in your house it can actually make you sick, you need to get someone in there to look and see where the smell is coming from. when bathtubs leak it is a bad thing and the longer you leave it the worse off it will be and the the more expensive it will be to fix. Good luck...

  3. DEFENETLY MOLD GET IT INSPECTED

  4. That's not good. I'd pull the carpeting up, get a couple cheap box fans from Wal Mart or wherever and leave them on high for a couple days.

You may have a leaky pipe in the wall in the bathroom. What you're smelling is mildew. If I were you, I'd get someone in there to check it out before it does a lot of damage or causes a black mold problem.

  5. I totally feel for you.  We had a mold problem in our apartment last year.  It started under our sink and it did smell musty. It spread to our hall and a mushroom even grew! Ya, I'm glad to report we don't live there anymore. But back to YOUR question.

Normally you'd spray  mold with a solution of bleach and water and let it air out. But in this case it might ruin your carpet.  If you live in an apartment, I'd definitely make management replace the carpet.  If not, this site might help:

How to Remove Mold From Carpet

Can it be a health hazard? YES, especially if it's black.

  6. use febreeze

  7. Any mold under carpets or tile is unhealthy and you need to get rid of it. If you have carpet, pull it up and use a mildicide spray on all areas that show mold. Use the same spray in your bathroom.

  8. Yes and yes....I would suggest cutting up the rug and checking out if the wood below is "black".....that is the worse mold and can cause serious health issues especially with lung problems.  You will need to have a contractor come in- or in Florida there probably is a lot of "mold specialists" in your local phone books...but check it out yourself first....you can always glue the rug back in place if it's not ruined, but I would bet that it is all mold underneath that rug and that means the rug has to go and the wood has to be treated.

  9. Put a fan in there to keep the air moving  and a dehumifier if you can get one. The fan will help a lot.

  10. it could be mildew and yes the smell would be different especially if you are taking about a carpet.

Humidy would make the wet capet the perfect breading ground for mold and mildew.

You should get your carpets cleaned. You can get serious infections from breathing in mold and mildew.

Be sure to higher a company that also dries the carpets. You do not what to have them cleaned and air dried.

Beleive me it is worth the money to have it cleaned...save your self from doctors bills and prescriptions for anti biotics.

  11. Is the area still wet? You need to put a fan blowing on it. Is the water from the AC unit dripping outside now? If not it needs to be. Febreeze does a pretty good job of covering up mold smell but if you have mold in the wood floor under the tiles or back in the walls that you can smell leans itself to more problems. You need to find out if your wall is molding from the inside out. As a insruance agent I can tell you that you dont want to let this get out of hand. Most home insurance policies dont cover it anymore and if it is a hazardous mold....well...go to a home improvement store and get a mold kit. You can get a samle and let it grow then find out what you have without spending BIG money for a pro to do it.

  12. get rid of the stench by umm.....

    gee I don't know

  13. It's probably mold.
