Question:

Is it morally right for a Christian to vote for an adulterer?

John McCain divorced his first wife (Carol) so he could marry his second wife (Cindy). Matthew 19:9 makes it quite clear that "I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for unchasity, and marries another commits adultery." If this is the case, McCain is committing adultery. How can one justify voting for such a person?

  1. If we only voted for people who were perfect Washington would be empty. We all make mistakes and choices in our lives that are not right. We are all sinners and fall short of God's perfection. That is why we need a Savior. I am sure Obama is perfect and has never done anything to compromise his moral values ( cough cough).

  2. Most of these answers from Christians make me sick and proud to not be one anymore.  You people put yourself on such high pedestal that you don't see your own flaws.  EVERYONE has them grow up.

  3. What does that have to do with his politics?

  4. Religion should have nothing to do with politics. Even still, don't vote for McCain. It'll be Bush all over again.

  5. I am not voting for McCain but also I have to say that we can always repent for our sins since Jesus layed down his life for us.

  6. We would hardly be able to vote for any politician if that were the case, dem or rep.

    I vote on the issues.

  7. if you aren't rich, I don't know why you would vote for mccain anyway. people that don't vote for their interests are idiots.

  8. Yeah he committed a sin but that's not the issue. We need someone who can actual run the country.

Honestly, there are a lot of crooks in politics and many of them are human like us. They have flaws, just accept it. The thing about humans is we all sin. Just because you don't see doesn't mean it wasn't committed. If you didn't know about his dirty little secret this wouldn't bother you that much and you would vote like an idiot thinking you really know your candidate.

Personal i would never have an abortion which is my choice. But the law won't stop abortion. It won't matter if you make it illegal or not, people will find a way. This has been going on for a long time. Seriously, the mortality rate for botch abortion will increase. We will have dead mothers and babies.

  9. "For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God"

"There is none righteous, no not one."

Even Obama has sinned. What's the difference if McCain's sin was adultery? Obama told us in his interview at Saddleback that he had done alcohol and drugs as a teen. The Bible says that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. What he did to his body was a sin.

Lying is a sin. Thinking bad thoughts is a sin. You can't judge a man just because he failed in one area.

As Jesus said, "let him who is without sin, cast the first stone. "

If I were so perfect that I could cast a stone at McCain, then I'd cast one at every politician on the planet as well. None of them would be fit for their positions.

We are not voting for McCain based on his moral failures. We should vote for him based on what he believes and stands for, and lift him up when he makes a mistake. Nobody got upset when Clinton cheated on his wife. By your standards, he should have been impeached. But we all fail. God forgives, and has grace for those who confess their sins, and McCain did that, in front of millions.

  10. I don't know if McCain is a believer in the true Jesus Christ or not, but I know that anyone can be forgiven their sins is they repent. I think it's terrible for a man to leave his wife for another woman. Is McCain sorry for what he did? I don't know. I won't be voting for either major candidate. They are both sold out to the New World Order.

  11. So I assume you are willing to cast the first stone...(John 8:7)

If one was to follow your argument to it's ultimate end, it would be a sin to vote for any sinner which completely eliminates any candidate!  You need to study the rest of the Bible before making a judgment based on only one passage.  Besides, you've completely ignored the context of the passage!

Edit:  "In context?"  You missed the whole point of Jesus' message!  So am I to assume that you now have the stone in your hand?  YOU HYPOCRITE!  You Pharisee!  You "viper!" You "wolf in sheep's clothing!"

Let me remind you of something.  Was Jesus speaking to Christians?  NO!!!  There were no Christians until Jesus was resurrected and the Holy Spirit was given!  He's talking to Old Testament believers!  THAT'S THE CONTEXT!!!

John 8:7, "So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

Go ahead, cast it...but then, you already have.  So since Jesus said we must judge with "righteous" judgment (meaning non-hypocritical), and since you say that McCain should "remarry" his first wife, then I guess you're just as guilty unless the stone miraculously flies back into your hand.

  12. But everyone has sinned, so it doesn't matter who you vote for. There's no such thing as a "sinless" candidate, because ALL humans are sinners, and all sins are equal in God's eyes.

  13. I personally am not thrilled over either candidate . But will be voting for McCain as opposed to Obama . McCain is a sinner just like we are all sinners. You included . How do you think your life would hold up under the microscope ? Do you think you would fair well ? I doubt it..

So if we don't vote for McCain because of his sin should we vote for a candidate without sin ? Let me show you below what the bible says about that.. Hope this helped...God bless you Q

    1 John 1:8

    King James Bible

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

  14. i don't know the situation.did he leave his first wife for his second for no reason.did carol cheat on him. if this is so he is free to leave.christians are going to have to vote for the lesser of two evils.

  15. McCain was sleeping with Cindy before he even filed for the divorce. And Cindy was the wife who waited faithfully for him to come back from captivity. Then he treated her like dirt. He's someone I wouldn't let in my house.

  16. Be Gone Obamite!

  17.   God never made such a statement.. When God created man there was no such thing as marriage and there will be none in the afterlife..The concept of marriage and divorce is man's invention..God has no rules or commandments, only instruction..It is man that twisted God's word to sound like commandments..Read God's truth in the Conversations with God books by Neale Donald Walsch(available at your library) It is no accident that you just read this answer... God bless

  18. Wow. Classic. Christians have no choice this year.

It's either a fetus killer or a commandment breaker!

My oh my, what a classic showdown!

  19. morallyy right is a ****** opinion, so if you whatever you think is true

  20. Because God is the only one how should judge. Therefore it is not up to you to say if he is going against God.

  21. yes, because I think the issues are political not personal.I can't in good conscience vote for someone pro-choice. Life must be preserved at all costs.I think personal info. such as that and their religious affiliation should be illegal. It sways people's opinions.

  22. How do you know the reasons he divorce his first wife. Perhaps she got lonely while he was in a fifth whole in the ground, for five years.

  23. Is it right for any Christian to judge another, no matter what that person may have done?

You can choose not to vote for him... but gossiping and judging is overboard and a sin

  24. Every vote you ever cast was for a sinner.  In politics, Christians need to decide based on whether the candidate will uphold Biblical values, even though that candidate is a sinner, just as you and I are.

  25. It is better than voting for a baby killer. Obama voted 3 times to withhold medical aid from babies who survive induced labor abortion. He said that mother wanted a baby not an abortion so the baby should die.

  26. Isn't it interesting how everyone has an opinion about this matter but the only two persons who know the truth remain silent?  If John McCain's first wife does not complain, who are we to involve ourselves?  We would be hypocrites.

  27. anyone who agrees with ole dubya...ever....isnt worthy to be the prez
