Question:

Is it more cost efficient to use movers or a DIY moving truck?

I'm moving from North Carolina to Texas, and with the cost of fuel, I'm wondering whether it would be cheaper to just use a moving company. I worked out that a small truck with fuel would cost me nearly $1000. I tried getting a quote from some moving companies, but they all send weird emails and I know that the price I'm quoted may not be on the up and up. Has anyone moved and found one to be better/cheaper than the other? Thanks!!

  1. Moving companies charge WAY more than $1000, especially to move that far.  It is more cost efficient to move yourself.

  2. We've done a lot of moving recently, did most of the sweat work ourselves so the movers only have to load, drive, and unload.

We've had great experiences with Two Men & a Truck (often a crew of three shows up, but it's well worth the $$)

Our last move we used Starving Students. Not bad, but a little less professional than 2Men.

I don't know if they're operating in your area, but give them a shout if they are. It'll save you a lot of stress.

  3. anything you can do yourself will save you some money.  The main thing is whether it's worth your time or not.

  4. Sweat equity is ALWAYS of value.

  5. If you think you can get help on both ends with the lifting..............Yes...........     I would get every thing in bxes, and ready to load into the truck..............(so the ppl you hire can put it in trk with out having to wait for you to pack it)  Same on the other end............... Its worth it by about at least ............................$1,000   .............. Good Luck...........................!=)
