Is it more dangerous to ride a horse or a motorcycle?

My boyfriend thinks horses are more dangerous and likely to main or kill you or involve you in an accident.

I think, even adjusted for number of riders and frequency, that a motorcycle is far more deadly. Additionally, I think that the severity of injuries is more dramatic with a motorcycle.

Who is correct, and why? Statistics, explanations, please!!!

  1. I have owned and ridden horses all my life but chose to let my kids get dirt bikes believing that horses created too much of a attachment and when they got old it was always heartbreaking.  I also thought that having three kids riding horses would just cost a fortune so we bought a peewee 50.  Big mistake as I reckon I could have kept a whole pack of horses for less than the bikes have cost.  But to the question.

Horses can be dangerous and I know mine have headed home without me on plenty of occasions.  I have had my horse decide to sidestep out in front of cars and throw me into prickle bushes, but the injuries that my son has had racing motox is by far more than I have ever had on my horse.  The worst injury that I know of in my life on horseback happened to my sister when her horse reared and then toppled backwards and broke her pelvis.

I think that both have there danger but the danger with the horse is the unpredicibily of the animal.  But I do almost wish that all those years ago I have chosen to buy my kids horse instead of a motorbike.

  2. I think your boyfriend is an idiot.  When was the last time you saw a horse rear end a tractor-trailer doing 80mph on a highway?

  3. a horse will bit i think that is pretty dangerous my bike does not bit.

  4. well depends how good of rider u are but horses are probably more dangerous

  5. They both can be very dangerous. You read about more accidents on motorcycles because there are more motorcycles on and off road..So I would have to say motorcycles by far....No need for research on that one...Its a no brain-er.

  6. well my dirtbike can go 120kmh down a gravel road, and i know if i fell of at that speed im toast.  Maybe horses are more unpredictable but i dont know much about them.

  7. Horses r g*y motorcycles r not nuff said

  8. I think a motor cycle can go a bit faster than a horse so the impact of the fall would be greater.

  9. ok... how fast can a horse go??
