Is it more eco-friendly to feed my cat from tins or pouches?

Tins are recyclable, but even recycling uses large amunts of energy.

Pouches are not recyclable, but will barely add to landfill as they're so flat and small.

What's your opinion?

  1. Well here's the issue:  the pouches are made of plastic which takes hundreds of years if not longer to decompose.  The energy used to recycle the tins is put back into the supply chain by companies reusing the cycled tin.  However, if you truly want to be eco-friendly you may check out local shops in your area that may sell organic cat food.  I personally haven't seen it, but I'm sure it's out there.

  2. Plastic pouches definitely.Tin cans aren't recyclable while plastic pouches are.Check if recycling facilities exist in your area.

  3. well... tins are good if u recycle them, but what you SHOULD use would probably be one BIG bag. i mean HUGE! then you can go a looong time without having to buy more bags and polluting the environment. hoped this helps. :)

  4. neither.... the very best is roadkill ...no packages, and just put the leftovers in your compost pile....just that simple, organic, and all natural - no additives

  5. Definitely meat from your butcher or as above, road kill. chop up some herbs and grass, add garlic, a bit of kelp and some oil and you will have the healthiest cat around.  Its also a lot cheaper!

  6. Tin cans ARE recyclable. Plastics take thousands of years to decompose, but depending on the plastic (1-5) used for the pouches and your recycling centers rules, the pouches too may be recyclable. However, I would suggest using the large bags of cat food that are made from a paper substance. The food doesn't even have to be organic - most larger bags of pet food come in this type of bag. This would also lower the amount of waste your using - 1 large bag compared to several small tins or plastic pouches. Another idea is to search on the internet for some recipes that you can make yourself for your pets - depending on how much effort you want to go to.

  7. go with the dried food in boxes they are recyclable better to recycle than the throw into a landfill

  8. In order of eco-friendliness (packaging only):

Bulk dry goods from a feed supply store

    Large bag

    Cooking yourself

    Tin - recycled

Pouch - they really do add up, you're not the only one using them!
