Is it more economical to use petrol or diesel automatic cars?

  1. Diesel in the same type car has the better mileage.


  2. It depends on the kind of fuel economy you get. I'm in the States - my car is a diesel and it gets 47 miles to the gallon on the highway. If it were the same car only gas (petrol) powered car, it would be getting about 27-30 miles to the gallon.

  3. diesel generally provides more mpg, but it can cost more than petrol. also build costs & taxes differ in differnet places.

    The cost to the health from deisels particulates is very significant, especially on main city routes.

    A hybrid like the Prius avoids (recovers) many of the losses in an automatic transmission;

    I don't think there are any diesel hybrids on the market yet because of they are harder to stop & restart - Toyota are working with Peugeot

    electric vehicles are naturally "automatic" because of the superior torque characteristics - and much more economical than any fossil fuel http://www.phoenixmotorcars.com/
