Is it more expensive to run an air conditioning unit than to run two box fans?

I really want an air conditioner in my room but my parents say it's too expensive to run. I'd like to know if an air conditioner uses up more energy than the two box fans I currently have in my room.

Definitely more expensive. Air conditioners are a lot bigger, and the amount of BTUs they have make it cost more.

I understand how you feel though... I need a box fan, too :(.

Yes it uses a lot more power. An air conditioner has a fan to blow cold air in a fan to blow hot air out then a compressor that uses a lot of power.

The answer is yes.  The air conditioner is more expensive as there is a fan motor running and the compressor.  The compressor is the big current user.  The air conditioner will keep your room much cooler.  I bet your parents have an air conditioner in their room.  My parents did.
