Question:

Is it more socially acceptable for men to have multiple partners?

I've noticed that if a man sleeps around with several women he is a "ladies man" and if a woman does the same thing she is a "s**t,w***e," (a few other words come to mind.)

Honest answers please, do you feel it is more acceptable for a man to partake in these "activities" than a woman? Do you guys/girls notice the same thing? What are your general feelings about promiscuity (male OR female)

Thanks everyone!

  1. This argument has been dragged over the coals so many times.

It is quite the double standard, and i dont support it by any means.

I have a few theories about why this happens, but they're lengthy and i wont post them here.

  2. This is a tired argument.  In an age of "s*x and the City", no one cares about s***s and whores!  The amount of people calling women s***s, etc is exaggerated so  women have something to ***** about.

The answer to this question might have been "yes" even ten years ago, but not anymore!

    To answer your 2nd question:

Certain studies show that if women have LOW self esteem they are more likely to sleep around, and if men have HIGH self esteem, they are more likely to sleep around.  Interesting paradox.

  3. Depends on the culture!

But in ours, I would say absolutely. In a world where a lot of things have really come far in being more evened out, this is one area that really doesn't seem to budge. I don't know why, a girl can be promiscuous if they want to, as can a guy. No skin off my back so long as I know where everyone's been and anyone I am with isn't promiscuous because, personally, I am not cool with that quality in a partner.

  4. depends

    lool

  5. My guy friend sleeps with everyone. The biggest man s**t in the tristate area. And why? Because he's hot and desirable, and tall and well built and rich. And us women try to behave best we can, at least I really do. Because I don't want to be labelled a s**t. This stereotype is true. I think maybe a man doesn't want a woman that everyone else has played with. Just my opinion. But a man can have experience, and still be cool.

  6. not any more really, depends on your circle of friends..... ive been involved in swinging and bdsm scenes and well, we tend not to be too judgmental.

whenever i do hear a woman being called a s**t or a s***k in a serious way, it is by another woman. the guys i know wouldn't do that to a girl.

  7. Yes, it is more acceptable for men.  I do know some promiscuous men who have low self-esteem. They won't easily admit it though..I just know some of these men very well.

I agree it depends on the culture, because some people will see a woman having just a few NSA relationships or one night stand as S****y.  Some people think promiscuous means you have had a 100 partners, while I have been called "S****y" for just having a hook-up with one guy I wasn't dating.

It's not true that the double-standard doesn't exist.Having grown up in conservative communities myself (East Indian, White Catholics in Alabama), people can still be prudish. Even here in Chicago, you can get labeled a s**t for things that aren't so S****y.

  8. Yes I think it is, but I think in reality women get to have more sexual partners in their lifetime than their male counterparts. Its sort of a dirty little secret.

  9. It's socially acceptable for any one to do anything depending on the circles they travel in.

    Sure, if you're a pimp/junkie/stripper/alcoholic, your pimp/junkie/stripper/alcholic mates will think it's cool to pimp/do drugs/strip/drink alot.

Likewise, if your social circle consists of "friends from church", your mates will think bible study is cool and the above isn't.

What constitutes as "sleeping around" is different in different social circles. Male or female doesn't make a difference.

The male label for "s**t/w***e" = "sult/w***e f*&%er" - hold your breath if he gets too close, you might catch something doesn't have very nice connations either.

  10. yes.

  11. Yes, but the "socially acceptable" double standard developed out of biological concerns for the woman's health.

The more a woman sleeps around, the more likely she is to get pregnant and be biologically forced to bear the full responsibility for her behavior (prior to the prevalence of STDs and the accessibility of abortions). But a man can sleep around and get many women pregnant, and he is not biologically forced to bear the full responsibility for it; the pregnant women are, and this is true in all species.

So, biologically speaking, sleeping around can potentially endanger a woman's health much more than it can endanger a man's health. Remember that pregnancy, without modern medicine, used to be VERY hazardous to a woman's health, and in some ways still is today. Fair? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, take it up with your creator.

Being promiscuous doesn't make you a s**t, a w***e, or a ladies man. That requires an attitude of not caring who your actions affect.

Morally speaking? As long as you're taking measures to physically protect yourself and your partner, not cheating in a relationship, and not playing games with anyone's emotions, I don't care how many consenting adults you sleep with and I don't see how it's the business of anyone else.
