  1. People want to make you feel guilty because they are lemmings who have not thought this through.

The next time someone insists that you wear a helmet while skiing, insist that they wear a helmet while walking.  After the look of shock passes from their face, continue.  Remind them that far, far more people are killed or injured as pedestrians in our cities than are killed or injured skiing.  People are hit by cars while crossing the street, they fall down stairs, they fall in the shower, etc.  We could save way more lives if people literally wore helmets ALL THE TIME.

Furthermore, we should all have helmets with head and neck restraints to wear in our cars.  Remember, of the 55,000 people killed on our roads annually, 11,000 or 20% die of head injuries.  Driving to the store to buy a gallon of milk?  Don't forget your Indy 500 style helmet!  And while we're at it lets mandate that everyone wear a Nomex fire retardant suit while in a vehicle.

  2. SERIOUSLY, man. We are not going to force you to wear a helmet. We are simply suggesting that wearing a helmet while skiing is much safer than skiing without one.

    Hope this Helps.

  3. Why do you care what other people think. Skiing is about self expression on the hill. Enjoy the mountain and Stop trying to be like others. Not just in Helmets, but in life. Rock a helmet if you want or don't. Who gives a S@$t. Just ride.

  4. While boarding I sometimes don't feel like wearing a helmet, but when I fell and hit my head, I was sooooo glad that I had mine on.  Imagine how foolish and guilty you will feel once you have a brain injury...

  5. if u want to ride whistler black park u need a helmet....and helmets can be really steezy.

  6. Iggy,

How many times do you need to ask this question?  If you don't want to wear one, then don't.  Please stop worrying about what others do or don't do.  Those of us who do wear one have told you our reasons why...if they're not enough for you to decide to wear one, then don't.  You have weighed the risks and benefits of not wearing one vs. wearing one and have decided the risk/benefit ratio of wearing one isn't high enough for you to make the plunge.  That same risk/benefit analysis was high enough for me to wear a helmet.

I honestly don't care if you wear one...it's your choice.  It doesn't affect me one way or the other, so I really don't have a say.  All I really care about is you not colliding into me when we're on the slopes!  (then I will have a lot to say, mostly filled with expletives and a discussion about the code!)

So, in closing.  Only YOU can make yourself feel guilty or foolish.  Unless you're underage (your parents get to have a major say in this decision), then if anyone makes a comment, the adult response:  "I weighed the pros and cons and decided it wasn't for me".  Then you move on.  If anyone wants to add more, just politely thank them for their interest in your health, but that you're more than happy with your decision, then walk away.  It then becomes their problem.

  7. Ho hum.  Another day, another dumb helmet question from iggy.  Unfortunately for him it seems that the damage has been done.

  8. It seems that teenagers wear helmets now just because everybody else does.  I wear a helmet when I go on terrain parks and big jumps.  It makes me feel more safer and that makes me want to do harder, more challenging skiing.  When you feel guilty or foolish, just tell yourself that it is your choice and that you choose not to wear a helmet.  Wearing a helmet has made ME a better skier, but it is always up to you.

  9. yes, it is your choice. some people think that wearing a helmet for skiing is the same a wearing a helmet for riding a bike. that if you don't its illegal. Thats not true. If you don't want to wear one, don't!! But I would and it helps.
