Question:

Is it my contracts or my eyes?

I am trying to figure out if my new contacts are my problem or if my eyes are. Ever since getting a new pair of contacts, my vision has been wacky. I've tried 3 differents brands and none have been good. The latest pair I have are better but still not acceptable. I see fine from far away, but when I try to look at my laptop or digital text, it takes about a good 2-3 seconds for my eyes to adjust. The text is very blurry and then seems to come in to focus a few seconds later.....Has anyone else experienced this with contacts?

  1. THATS HOW I WAS WHEN I FIRST GOT MY CONTACTS. I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM BECAUSE JUST LIKE YOU SAID I COULD SEE FAR AWAY BUT STUFF THAT WAS UP CLOSE WAS TO BLURRY. I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THOUGH THAT AFTER A WEEK OR SO IT DIDN'T DO IT ANY MORE. I GUESS THAT MY EYES HAD GOTTEN USED TO THEM.

  2. Either you are over-corrected (if you are near-sighted), under-corrected (if you are far-sighted), or you have a problem focusing in your own right (called accommodative dysfunction) having nothing to do with the contacts themselves.   This assumes you are under age 40.  If you are older than this, you may be experiencing presbyopia, which is a loss of the focusing ability up close.  Contact lenses bring this on more quickly for near-sighted people.  If your old prescription was slightly less than what you needed to see for distance, you could still read, but when they were corrected for distance, it pushed you over the edge, so to speak.  Just a few possible scenarios....I'm curious as to your age.....

***Ask him if your distance prescription increased and if you weren't having any trouble with that for distance and you still meet driving requirements...go back to it.  If you tried that already and the problem persists....ask him for accommodative testing, postive and negative relative accommodative tests are good....
