Question:

Is it my hips or my knees?

I have been walking about 4 miles each and every day for the last 6 weeks. I have lost 15 lbs. in 6 weeks. But now I have a problem. The area above my knee and below my butt aches. My knee hurts a little too (this is only my right leg -- the left leg is just fine). So, I am wondering if I need to protect my knee with a knee-brace or if I need to do more hip exercises.

  1. Obviously you are putting all your wait on your right leg. Walk evenly when you do and when it is walking for exercise warm-up first. Or it is your body getting use to all your exercise. Either way it is not too serious so no need for a doctor yet. But if the pain gets serious then go to the doctor. And if it is muscle pain lay of the walking for a while and massage your leg with Bengay or any other muscle and joint pain cream you can get your hands on. Hope I helped.

  2. Maybe you've been walking a little too vigorously. What kind of pain is it? Like a sore, stiff pain or joint pain?

  3. im no doctor but if you havent been used to doing alot of walking just find a good thorough warm up and stretching routine before you go out! id say that would sort the problem! if the problem persists id speak to a doctor!

  4. I agree with Lui. This sounds very much like a muscular complaint. Decent stretching exercises should ease the pain off after a long walk. If this pain continues or gets worse, or most importantly if its interfering with your exercise or with your daily routine, see a doctor. Ibuprofen can also be excellent for muscular aches.
