my internet modem keeps stop working. one minute it will be fine then it will like...c**p out..and theres only two lights on and i have to reset it...

im j/w if its the modem thats dying?

or if it could be something else?

it just started doing it recently....

another detail is the two lights that are on while it craps out are the

internet(one light)

and

pc link(another light)

and the cable light isnt on neither are the rest...so could that mean the cable is crapping out or somethings wrong with it...or just the modem and getting a connection from the cable..

its nothing on my computer because its the modem or something not working my computer is fine.

our tvs are working fine except i have cogeco and my video on demand hasnt been working for awhile...so if that helps at all...yeah

  1. THat's what the Cable light means - there is no signal from your ISP.  Call them and they will fix it.  Probably old wires outside.

  2. I had a smilar issue the other day turns out it was the cable company who was having problems with the connection coming to my end. Contact them and they should be able to fix the problem. Before you call though you should try a modem refresh.  To do that just unplug the modem from the wall outlet and from the computer for 30 seconds. Plug it back into the wall and the computer and that might resolve your issue. Good luck!

  3. Definately an ISP problem.  The modem's PC Link light is one meaning the cable from the modem to your PC or router is working properly.  That means that the modem could be going out, or could mean that the line from the D-Mark (a box usually outside the house) to your modem, or the line from down the road to your D-Mark is having problems.  Even the D-Mark itself could be what is having issues.  In any of those situations, it is the responsibility of the ISP to repair those issues.  In many cases, if you tried to fix it they could file charges against you for tampering with their equipment.  Give your ISP a call and keep track of anything you notice might be common in it resetting.  e.g. - Did it storm?  Were there any electrical surges?  Were you downloading big files? etc.  They should be able to get a trouble ticket set up for you to dispatch a field specialist to repair the line or replace any fault equipment.

  4. Regardless of what component is bad, if the modem disconnects from the internet, it's the provider's problem.  If you're just curious, ask the repairman when he finishes fixing the problem.  (Believe it or not squirrels like cable insulation, and a few months later the cable fails.  Or a just ever so slightly loose connection on the pole lets water in, tiny drop by tiny drop, and the connection fails 3 years later.  And I've seen *really* strange things - those are normal things.)
