Is it my toe broken???

I whacked my pinkey toe pretty good last night and it still really hurts this morning. There is some bruising between the fourth toe and the pinky toe and it hurts when I move or put weight on it...but I just want to know if it's broken. It's not really swollen, just a little, and nothing looks really bent or anything...what do you guys think?

  1. I completely broke my pinkey toe years ago; it broke in half and was sticking out at a 60 degree angle.  I wear new balance sneakers (they have a large toe box) and inadvertently set it by putting my shoe on.  Extremely painful.

If you do not intend to go to the doctor to confirm, do the following:

    1. Pull the toe out straight from the base of the foot.  This will hurt, but you want to make sure that the toe is straight.

    2. Get some tape.  Any type will do in a pinch, but bandaging tape is the best as it will be more flexible.  Tape the pinkey toe to the one next it it.  If it is broken, this is what the doctor will do.

    3. Wear shoes where the toe space is wide.  You do not want to crowd your toes, it will inhibit healing and be very painful.

It will take 6-8 weeks to heal and will probably remain painful for months after.  I would refrain from running or any exercise that involves pushing off with your toes, as this will likely delay healing.

If it is just badly bruised, this will also aid in healing it and you will have the benefit of it healing faster.

  2. sounds broken but then again might just be a bad bruise or a sprain in any way all the docs would do is tape it up u can pretty much use anything just put some gauze or a cotton ball between your forth and pinky toe to prevent rubbing so it doesn't blister. Then you can use tape or what i find more comfortable is a few band aids.Good Luck but if it doesn't get better after a week you might want to go to a doctor

  3. Only an x ray would tell you, and no one here has x ray vision.

  4. Ask your Mum or Dad (or a relative) if they think it's broken. If they don't know go to the Doctor's. In my opinion it sounds broken.

  5. i have broken a lot of toes and it does kinda sound like it, but the only thing you can do is wrap the toe with tape around the toe next to it. that should fix it...

  6. Well i may not be a doctor or expert or anything like that but i have broken my baby toe and both arms twice... I would say that if you cant put weight on it and it hasn't gotten any better overnight then i would say go check it out to be safe... i got mine hooked on a dresser (don't ask me how i'm still confused) but i had minimal swelling but i sadly dislocated my toe... had to have crutches for a bit... but just to be on the safe side go to the hospital and get an xray... and try not to walk on it or bear weight because you can end up hurting it worse then it is which is the last thing you want... don't wait too long either!!!

  7. it could be broken...but you can never really tell until all the swelling goes down...but you can really do anything for a broken toe...for pain follow rice....rest, ice for twenty mins for every three hours, elevate your leg with two or three pillows and try taping your toe with the surronding one next to it....if theres pain anywhere else then go to your doctor
