  1. there are a few areas in ontario that are french speaking, but it mostly all english so i dont think you would have any problems not knowing french. however, if you have free time then it can never hurt to learn it.

  2. No, I went to a French immersion grade school, and took French immersion in high school, and it has been a very useless skill thus far.  Unless you go to Quebec you won't need French. (But even then, a few French phrases will get you by).

  3. As I live in North Bay, which is in Northern Ontario, French is very useful. Almost everyone here speaks it as well as English and many GOOD jobs require you to be bilingual. I grew up in Southern Ontario, Niagara Falls, and am very glad I took French through to OAC otherwise I might be working at McDonalds these days.

  4. No

  5. Speaking one or (preferably) both of Canada's official languages will be helpful when you apply to immigrate to Canada.

In most parts of Ontario, English is the dominant language.  (I have noticed, however, that I am more likely to be addressed in French if I've taken the time to dress well, and have just come from the hairdresser!)

If you want to work for the provincial or federal governments, you will find that speaking French is an asset, if not a necessity.

  6. Where in Ontario?  While the majority of Ontario is english speaking, there are a few french speaking areas.  If you are moving to any major metropolitan area you'll be fine.

  7. no, but if you want to work for the government than yes you do

  8. You probably won't hear a word of French spoken! If you telephone a government office, you will be asked which language you wish.

  9. Its not neccessary but some people and clerks there speak french. Just know the basic "thanks - please - hi - bye  "

  10. No no necessary to know french you will be fine as English is the main language but if you know French it will be beneficiary for you.You can start well in English and you can upgrade yourself in French after moving other wise you will be even fine without french.Go ahead best of luck.
