Is it necessary that your ice skating skirt is velvet or polyester?

For Ice Skating, any kind of cloth for ur skirt can be used. The only reason why some use velvet or polyester is because they're not that heavy...

it can be any kind of fabric that u choose velvet or polyester will probably keep you a little warmer than a chiffon skirt and some kind of leatard.

I think the reason you see so much stretch velvet is that it's warmer than a lycra spandex type of material.  I don't know what type of polyester you mean but if you're talking about the kind in a leotard, it can be a bit chilly.  But some skaters run "hot" and if it doesn't bother you, go for it.

No of course not you can wear whatever material skirt you want and it will be fine!

The lighter the fablic the more ease you have. You don't want anything weghing you down.

Of course not. Iv'e used all sorts of fabrics chiffon, organza, lace, satin. You can use any fabric, but if it is a non-stretch fabric just make sure that you have a gather so you can fit it.
