Is it necessary to buy a whole new passport to change name after marriage?

My wife needs to change her name on her passport, so does she need to purchase a new one, or can she just have a new one issued?

  1. No, she can get her marriage certificate and correct details to the passport folks and they will amend the back of the passport with the correct details. You can ask at the post office, I belive, but she does NOT need a new one!!


  2. She will need to go to your towns main post office and speak with the clerk there.  She will give her the application and then when you send it in your probably have to attach the old passport.  

    p.s. in the "old days" they would just write over the name!  Not today! :-(
