I'm currently in 10th grade, but in my country we graduate in 11th grade, meaning I'll graduate in 2009. My school doesn't offer advanced courses, the schedule is settled per year and all of us take the same classes together. I'm on the top tenth. I know that the american system consists in 4 years of high school, so it reaches to 12th grade. I was wondering if I had to take an additional high school year in the US to apply for college.

I have also read that you don't need the 4 years of high school, just the basic subjects. If that so, could you tell me which are they?

  4. Which country are you from?

With regards to high-school, universities in the U.S. only require proof that you have graduated high-school in your country of residence, regardless of how many years that countries high-school education takes.

  5. As long as you graduate in good standing from your high school you should be fine. You will need to take the TOEFL (an exam that will measure your knowledge of English) in the United States and have your transcripts forwarded and officially translated to the institution of your choice. Make sure to look at the requirements of "International Students" on the website of the institution of your choice, they usually have higher standards as a limited number of international seats are open each year. Good luck!
