  1. Mechanically, not such a big deal but.........

YES, for two very good reasons.

    1. To maintain the passages and keep them clean.

2.(a big one now) to avoid the transfer of species from one body of water to another. There is a big movement worldwide to curtail the spread of invasive species. For example...Carp and Zebra Musselas in the Great Lakes. Both are non-native species.

Soon, those who don't flush at haul-out will be charged.

    Hope this helps...DM

  2. It may not be nessesary but it deffently wouldnt hurt.

  3. Here's generally the rule of thumb about flushing:

Flush after a long period of use (2 days or more of regular use in a row).

Flush if you ever get in a badly dirty lake or operate where the water muds up too badly (suck up a ton of dirt and tiny rocks near the shallows) for longer than 2 seconds.

Flush before putting it away or winterizing it.

Don't forget to run the carb out of gas for any outboard when putting up for the day or flushing.  They gum up 2 to 4 times faster than inboard motors.

  4. It is not nessasary to flush it - but you should turn the engine on and rev it (only for a few seconds) to just get all the water out.... especially before the winter.....

  5. Couldn't hurt, a little extra maintenence never hurts.

  6. It really depends on the water quality in the lake.... The dirtier the water is, the more often that you should flush. Plus it could never hurt to keep the engines clean!
