  1. Your agreement will stipulate a continuous connection from your Sky Box to a BT land line  for the first twelve months. At least mine did.

  2. I think Sky policy is that you have to have sky connected to a phone line for the first 12 months of your contract, don't think it has to be BT though, as long as you have a landline.

  3. take it from someone who has sky tv without a BT line no. you can pay a one off fee of £15 and never connect it to a line!!1

  4. I thought that Sky insisted that the box is connected to a BT phone line for when you order movies and such things.  I think if it's not connected to a BT phone line you might get charged for these calls.

    [Edit] - from Sky's website

    (j) If your Box is connected to a telephone line, information may be passed from it to SSSL and vice versa by telephone.

Which suggests to me that it doesn't need to be...

  5. Legally No....

  6. Yep.   It's a conspiracy Sky & BT are both theiving sdratsaB!

  7. nope, you need the phone line for your sky box to run through. they will give you 4 weeks to get a telephone line connection after installation , if you havent got one they will check and cut your sky off. dont be so tight, if you can afford sky you can afford a telephone line

  8. Yes if you want to get movies, and update the box occassionally. No if you don't want either of those options. However you will only get some of the free channels that freeview have.

  9. We need to have a sky connection on our ariel socket in order to get sky

  10. Hi.

    Get Virgin Media.

They install their own cable line so you no longer have to pay BT a line rental of £11 per month (Virgin Media don't charge line rental at all).

Also, everything they do comes from cables in the ground. So you don't need a big satellite dish on the front of your house. This also means that you can get On Demand programmes.

They also offer the fastest broadband speeds available in the United Kingdom at the moment. Up to 20mb/s through fibre optic cables. Compare this to Sky's measely 8mb/s.

Lastly, Virgin Media are much cheaper than Sky. You can get Sky Sports channels from them at a cheaper price than if you get them from Sky.

    Matt

  11. If you already have an existing contract with SKY, and it is more that 12 months old, then no, you don't have to have a telephone line connected.

If you have a contract less than 12 months old, you must, as a part of the agreement you signed up for with SKY, have your DIGIBOX connected to a 'live' telephone service. It does not necessarily need to be with BT.

If you are about to get a brand new SKY contract, you will need to have a live telephone service to connect it to. SKY will not install a new system if there is no telephone service in your home - they use it to make sure you don't run away with the equipment!

  12. I don't know about BT but you must connect for 1 year by a landline or they charge you more

  13. Yeah, you do. And when you do, if you take the phone line out or disconnect it from the Sky box, Sky would fine you or something like that.

Happen to a friend of mine. AngeG, agree with you.
