Question:

Is it necessary to pay Verizon to "set up" additional TVs during FiOS installation?

When ordering FiOS service, the install will include 3 free setups for "TVs with EXISTING coax outlets"

If I want to install additional TVs, even though they also have existing coax outlets, they want $19.99 per TV for setup as a one time charge.

Is this charge necessary? Why can't I use my existing coax infrastructure and simply connect the set top boxes myself?

  1. IF you complain enough to the billing department it is always free!  Trust me.

  2. I don't know who told you that, but I am a FIOS installer and I have never charged for additional STB (set top box) set-up's especially if the coax was preexisting.  There is no extra work that needs to be done.  We always use the existing coax and never rewire unless there is a problem after testing the signal strength.  There may be a charge if a new outlet needs to be run and wired.
