Is it necessary to use felt paper on top of Advantek OSB subfloor before installing hardwood flooring?

We are preparing to install new pre-finished oak hardwood in our new sunroom to save money.

We have the 3/4" thick AdvanTec tounge and groove subfloors on brand new construction.

Is it necessary to use felt paper on top of the OSB before we install the flooring, or can we just staple the planks directly to the Advantek surface?

The surface is nice and even and I've already grouind off any s***w head the installers left up too high. I've been trying to find out for sure if the additional layer is necessary or not before we start.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

  1. There is a better solution than asphalt paper for this project.

Basic Underlayment is a cost effective product that fills the most basic requirements for most wood floors. It has an extended lip of film on one edge and self-seal tape on the opposite edge for easy installation. It has polyethylene foam with an attached durable polyethylene vapor barrier to create a moisture resistant floor.

Designed for use over all types of sub floors, and is suitable for use on concrete or any surface that requires moisture resistance.
