Is it normal, when learning the guitar...?

yesterday i began self teaching myself the acoustic and i think i mastered the first string, but is it normal to be confused with the note letters? also my main problem is hitting the other strings when im trying only to focus on the first?? everyone says its normal, especially since my teacher is a book, but i'm trying and i just want to know if this is normal.

Very. As a somewhat experienced guitar player, I often hit an extra string. The trick is to use your hands to mute the other strings, either by using your fingers on the frets by reaching out and touching the other string, or by the easier way of muting the extra strings with the side of your hand. As far as learning the notes, it just takes time and most importantly repetition.
