Is it normal after a wisdom tooth is removed to have puss in the swollen cheek? 2 days later.?

Had tooth removed on Friday and my mouth is swollen and I can see puss when I pull my lip because I can barely open my mouth. I'm not in pain but its kinda disgusting. is this normal?

  1. Not normal, and not good!  See your dentist as soon as possible.


  2. Puss is never normal!  It means you have an infection.  Call your dentist or oral surgeon right away, and if you can't reach them, call your regular doctor.

  3. Yes and no. Pus means infection, and infection is very common after wisdom teeth are removed. That's why so many dentists prescribe antibiotics before or after that surgery. If you're not experiencing any pain, then that's a good sign. You're probably fighting the infection on your own. To be on the safe side, though, call your dentist and tell him about the swelling and pus. He may decide to put you on antibiotics as a precaution. Feel better!
