Thinking of adopting .... How would she eat? Would this cause any problems for her in the next couple of years? Can the vet give her implants of some sort????

  1. well cats live long like dogs and 10 years old is like 60 to them so yes they would loose there teeth also i would recomend wet food for cats not dry because dry is for chewing and wet food its not as hard you might also want to cut the wet food a little for the cat to eat it in little bights since it barley has teeth ok

  2. No, its not normal. Take her to the vet and make plans to switch her to soft, wet food. As far as I know, dental implants are not done on cats.

  3. some kitties just have issues like people as they get older and teeth need to come out. kitty should be fine now so no worries, a diet of wet food would be best though.

And I would also like to give you a star for adopting and older kitty, they need homes too! Good For you if you do and i think you should!

  4. its not normal for a 10 yr old cat to lose teeth period. well maybe like 1 or 2 but yea. she wouldnt be able to eat dry food so dont even think of that. she'll choke. it woukd cause problems because teeth are best forms or defense and attack besides claws. idk about implants, though.. id look into it.\

    GL ;D

  5. NO! WHAT HAS THAT CAT DONE TO ITS MOUTH?? I had a cat that lived to be 22 and she still had all her teeth!!!

  6. No a 10 year old cat should not have lost all their teeth.  I have a 19 year old and a 14 year old cat plus other younger ones and they still have most of their teeth.

  7. It is not normal for a 10 year old cat to have lost all of her teeth.

There is a condition in cats where their body basically has an allergic reaction to tarter on the teeth.  They get severe periodontal disease and chronic blood infections until they either lose the teeth or a vet pulls them all to save their life.  That is one possible explanation.

In cats with that disorder, they can do just fine eating canned food.  Once the teeth are gone, they are usually perfectly healthy.  There aren't any kind of implants the vet can do, it is just a matter of making sure that their diet is easily palatable.

  8. No

  9. It's not normal, but it does happen.  If a cat has had no dental hygiene care in it's life, or has had an injury - it can happen.  You must now feed it only wet food, and not any wet food with shredded meat, or sliced or any other "chunky" wet foods.  Has it been checked by a vet lately?  It may have gum disease as well and may need an antibiotic.

To all owners: Part of your yearly check up should include a dental check and cleaning of your cats teeth.  Ideally, you should be brushing your cats teeth with dental wipes every few days to help keep their teeth healthy.
