I have ornithiphobia. My favorite babysitting clients just bought two new birds who scare me to death! I can't even sit for the kids when I'm near them! What should I tell my clients? I don't want to stop babysitting. One other question- Is this normal for a 13 year old girl?

  1. I'm afraid of birds too. My mom got a bird once and it gave me nightmares.

  2. Well you can't tel your clients to get rid of their birds, it is after all THEIR home not your's.  You could seek counseling for your phobia or you could work out your phobia yourself by being around birds starting slowly with a couple of minutes and working up to long periods of time with them.  And yes phobias are quite normal.  Most people have phobias about all kinds of things, heights, flying, spiders, even flowers.

  3. I don't think that there is anything that you can really tell your clients. You could ask them to keep the birds away while you are there, but then there is the possibility that they may not ask you to babysit, if they can find someone who is also comfortable with the birds.

I think that it is normal. Everyone has things they are scared of. I'm petrified of the dark. But you can come to terms with your fear. Dogs used to make me cry, and now I absolutely love them. You may want to ask someone who is comfortable with birds to help you overcome your fear of them.

    Hope this helps. :]

  4. just tell them about it. they probably wont mind if you and the kids just stay out of the room they're in. i used to babysit for kids with a dog that mauled my cat and i explained that i was really scared of dogs and they just kept it outside and didn't mind at all. its normal to be scared things. its bad if you don't have a fear of something. that would just mean you're crazy.

  5. Just tell them about it and askk them to keep the birds in a seperate room from where you babysit.

  6. It's not normal for anyone.  It's an irrational fear.
