Question:

Is it normal for a Mandevilla to get its bottom leaves dry at this period of the year?

My mandevilla is in partial sun 9it gets the sun only in the afternoon. However, I live in Dallas, Texas, and it's been 105 degrees on average during the last two weeks. I water the plant at least every other day, but it keeps getting its foliage yellow and then brown.

Is there something I can do?

  1. Many plants get heat stressed this time of year.  If your Mandevilla is in a pot, try moving it to a shady area during the heat of the day.  If it's planted in the ground, try adding a heaby layer of mulch around the plant to help retain moisture.

  2. It could need pruning, but it should tolerate the heat. It shouldn't have dying leaves right now, other than here and there. It might need some fertilizer.

  3. Most plants do have yellow leaves at the bottom much more frequently in the extreme heat(105 is extreme).  I would not fertilize it at this point as it relly should not have to deal with root change.  Put some mulch around the base of,the plants and if you can shade it or move it do so.  Our plants are  showing stress too (S. Florida) and I have had to move even some of my sun loving plants into the shade,
