Two part question

to be running for 8 hours? My computer was ambushed (I wasnt there when it happened, so cannot tell you how it happened) and was infected by a virus. It took over 37,000 files, deleted norton anti virus, disabled zone alarm and then took out adaware. It messed up alot of my programs all well. Anyway I am running Threat Fire and Zone Alarm. Threat Fire took over 10 hours to do a full scan! We do not even have that many files on our computer--When it got to the point of quarantine it just froze and then did not quarantine so I had to restart it--Same thing with this Malwarebytes program. It took 10 hours so scan it, found the stuff (Hundreds of infected zip mpvie files we didnt put on there) then froze and didnt get rid of them

I have been trying for 4 days now, Zone alarm and Threatfire got rid of some but I know they are still there. I cannot afford to have the Geek Squad look at it. Is it hopeless. Can anyone recommend something? Is the 10hr scan normal?

  1. NO IT DOES NOT TAKE 10 HOURS THATS SCREWED UP ITS PROBABLY BEST TO RE-FORMAT

  2. okay, when it gets this bad, its time to don your surgical mask. alright, you should start by booting in safe mode. start by turning off your computer, turning it on again, and then AS SOON AS YOUR TURN IT ON AGAIN, START TAPPING THE F8 KEY until a menu pops up, choose safe mode with networking. what this will do is load windows with only the basic drivers, so the virus will be, to put it simply in a state of suspended animation. what you should do then is run a scan using whatever antivirus program you have. when it completes finds the viruses, delete them. what you should also do is fire up system restore, and choose a restore point before the infection. it will roll your computer back to a previous point. if all else fails, then reinstall windows, this will delete everything, including the virus.

  3. Is it XPAntivirus2008 that infected your computer.  There are posters planting a link to this virus here in Y!A so if you clicked the link it could be how that happened.  The link does not identify it as a virus so many think it is just an innocent link.  Anyhow, I was infected with this virus and it does cause many problems.  Basically it is spyware/malware and it lies about how many infected files you actually have.  It is a really disreputable way to get you to purchase a product you don't want.  My husband managed to get rid of it, but it took all day to find it because many of the files were disguised.  Anyhow, if it is the xpantivirus, let me know with additional detail and I'll send you what I know.

    Good Luck

  4. No, that's way to long, the system is hanging up somewhere.  Infections can compromise your security.  I would try booting into safe mode with networking and installing another security program such as AVG.  If this doesn't help then check out http://www.nicklockard.com

  5. I Recommend you Uninstall you Anti-Virus then install again then try to scan you Computer. if Still the problem  you have i mean is Anti-Virus run to many hours, Uninstall you Anti-Virus then install Avg here download http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-F...
