When I was young, I used to go in my room and pretend I was different characters and used to make up fake situations. I usually talked in my mind though. Like, I would never say the things or conversations out loud. I'd sometimes pretend my room was an apartment, and I was pregnant. I would pretend I was sick sometimes, so I would lay on my bed, and orange soda would be my medicine.

And I just remembered right now how I used to pretend I was back in the pilgrim days and stuff. I would really get into it though, and I would imagine it really clearly, like as if it were real. I would try to set up the area I was in to fit the setting of my 'game'. If people tried to interfere, I'd get kind of uneasy, or not comfortable because with people, I couldn't imagine as well.

I used to play with barbies kind of like this, with real-life situations, but I remember never really using the barbies. I'd dress them, make a setting, and place them in a spot, but the rest would be in my head.

  1. I would say this is a bit more than normal, since you say that you would get uneasy when other people would intrude on your fantasy playtime. I would not worry about it though, since many other children have most likely done this as well. I myself used to play through all kinds of scenarios with both my GI Joe action figures with the Kung Fu Grip, and I'd even include my little green army men. I'd ususally end up in some sort of Attack of the Giant Man scenario though...LOL!

  7. Totally normal... I did that when I was younger. Mostly when I was in elementary school though.

But then once I start middle school, then I few years later became a teenager, I forgot about enjoy those kind of things and watched TV/Sat on the computer for hours on end.

I miss those days! They were so much fun because you could easily entertain yourself! Know I'd look like I have a head problem when I do those things!

  12. Hah yeah of course.

Imagination is a really big part of children.

It's totally normal for children to play by themselves, don't even worry about it. I'd think it would be weird if children didn't play by themselves.

I used to think I worked at Subway. I would put a bunch of different chopped up veggies in Tupperware and have different types of bread out. I'd have my family come in the kitchen and get a sub!
