Is it normal for a doctor to prescribe athlete foot medication after nail surgery?

I'm not an MD, but I would expect it to be preventative.  Shoes are high humidity areas and feet go places other feet have been.  Best to prevent the fungus, because it is really hard to eliminate it once it starts.

Could also be that the nail surgery was related to athlete's foot already being present - it can get under nails and cause discoloring and loosen the nails.
